Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A few years ago, when I thought my children were too young to start fine arts :o( , I came across some fine art cards for little hands. Since then I have not been able to locate them. I've seen some playing card sets, but I'm wondering if they would be TOO small?

I did a google and found that the Nat'l Gallery of Art has some art cards sets, and then there are some (very pricey) about Renaissance and Impressionist art. Maybe Veritas Press has some art cards, I can't seem to navigate their website at the moment.

Have any of you found some art cards that would aid us in studying the artists/art of different time periods? It seems to get a good variety would be very expensive. Maybe I just don't know what all is out there? Thanks for any direction!

Ana,

I've bought just about all the art postcards I could from Dover Publications. When we are studying an artist, I leave the art postcards out on our discovery table for my girls to look at. I've showed them how to handle the art cards properly but every now and then they get bent.

HTH,

I see at the Dover site that they have small format art books holding 6 cards and then the other books with the 24 cards.

I wonder, for those of you who have the 24 card books, are these 24 different painting? Or is it 4 copies of 6 paintings?

I'm debating over getting a few of the small format books (they are much cheaper), versus the 24 card books, but I can't decide!! I have racked up almost $100 in the 24 card books and there's no way that's in my budget! I may just start with Winslow Homer.

I'm so enjoying the artist/composer of the month! I never knew who Homer was or how wonderful he is! THanks for any suggestions!

We got both the 6 and 24 set from Dover for Winslow Homer. In one set each card is a different print.

We also have Mommy It's a Renior/Childsized Masterpieces Step 1. I've never used the manual of how to use them. We just play Go Fish, discuss the pictures, copy them, or play Concentration. Since the book comes with 4 works for each artist, we'll pick 4 Homer prints to add to our set, and I don't know how I'll use the others we have.

The cards are about 4x6 and my kids have developed strong attachments to the works in the set. Today at the museum, my daughter insisted on visiting "her" picture, and luckily she remembered who it was by so the security guard could point us in the right direction.

Catholic Heritage Curriculum has a print set for Millet, Homer(which I just ordered for this month's art study), .Impressionists, N.C. Wyeth and Hudson River School. There is also an 8x10 set called The Liturgical Collection. The Dover sets are probably more extensive and less expensive but as long as I was ordering from CHC, I threw in the cards
