Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone aware of a composer who has composed many Christmas tunes? I am looking for a composer to study for the next few weeks.
I might just take a Christmas song or two, like Silent Night, and work on the history behind it. But wanted to know if I could cover more territory, if you know what I mean.
Thanks,
Anne

As far as classical composers, Handel, Tchaikovsky, Bach all have music associated with Christmas and are who I tend to think of when I think Christmas composers. All these composers were covered here on 4 Real in the past Composer of the Month studies. Though the studies don't focus on Christmas music, you could probably get some resources to get started there.

It's not a classical composer but if you did want to go the route of studying a couple individual carols, I put together a Christmas Carol Study a few years ago. It has the history of some carols and great picture books to go along.

Stories Behind the Best Loved Christmas Carols and it's sequel are a fun place to start to look at the history of different carols.

Okay, not necessarily a classical composer, but Isaac Watts wrote Joy to the World, along with thousands of other hymns. He was a 15 year old complaining about the songs in church, and his father challenged him to write something better. Joy to the World was written as he meditated on Psalm 98.
