Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Moms~

Do any of you use Making Music Praying Twice?

If so...what do you do in your daily lesson plans to account for the "rhythm patterns" and "tonal patterns"?

I am definitely not a professional musician, though I seriously played the violin for 15 years...being suzuki trained, I have no clue what "atonic" means...or other such music theory. Is this theory important?

Frankly, we just think the songs are pretty cool...but I do have the desire to set a musical foundation for my littles before lessons begin.

Any thoughts on the technicalities of MMPT?

Maggie

I've just starting using the program. I'm mostly doing so because I want more music in our days and I wanted something special for the littlest ones in our household where the older children are taggers-on) so I haven't worried at all about the theory behind it.

We've mostly just used the rhythm patterns and tonal patterns on the CD. I also echo my one year old when she makes tones. It makes for a great copycat game.

I'm trusting the manual when it states "If this doesn't make sense to you, don't worry. Just sing the patterns as modeled on the CD" [they do give a definition of atonic in the glossary]

There will be plenty of time later for my children to pick up the technical language if they desire. As far as I can tell this is supposed to be the musical equivalent to read-alouds and storytelling to preliterate children.

Does it specify on the CD which have the tonal and rhythm patterns? I always forget...

I got the info CD, but didn't buy the program. the kids like the songs that we have so far....but I am not sure I want the whole kit and kabbodle. Can someone convince me otherwise?

If you like the demo CD, then you'd like the other CDs. Personally, I think I'd be just as happy with just purchasing the CDs. I don't really see myself using the entire program as in the manual, though there are some REALLY helpful ideas in there. It's nice, don't get me wrong. I do like it, but being realistic, just enjoying the songs is more to our ability.

God bless,
Christine
