Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm reorganizing my learning room for next year. I'm very pleased with the way my creative art center is emerging, but I'm stumped on the sculpey clay.

I have a lot! Right now, it's in a big bin. It's not very accessible and the individual colors are just in ziploc baggies. It's all very...ugly.

Would you share the way you organize your sculpey clay? I'd like it to be stored and displayed in a way that invites use.

Thanks.

Hmmm. We keep ours in a small set of plastic drawers on the art cabinet. The colors are typically mixed as soon as the new stuff is opened , so I don't bother with baggies. In the drawers with the Sculpey are some clay tools and small cookie cutters.

It's not the best set-up, but the kids do use it a lot. The drawers are within reach of the little ones so I do have to prevent the toddler from having it for a snack sometimes, but I have to admit that this particular set of plastic drawers has endured for a very, very long time while I have rethought and reorganized countless other art containers.

I used to have the Sculpey project books right beside the drawers, but I had to move them across the room to the bookcase to make room for more art supplies.

Jen, we have ours in a plastic bin, too - shoe box size. But instead of regular ziplocks I use those smaller ones (used for beading supplies). They are only about 2 x 3 inches and so a block of one color Sculpey fits in really well. That way colors don't mix, but there isn't all that extra plastic bag filling up space and looking messy in the bin. This works for us to keep everything easier to find and looking reasonable organized.

i'm so impressed that you all can keep the colors from mixing. i'm generally just happy if the clay is in the box. it's like playdough - i buy it and then try not to ever look at it again because it's only moments before it's all mixed in color and then dried out.

Jenn--I put the individual blocks in an embroidery floss tray...the little compartments are the perfect size and the top snaps shut to keep it air tight.
