Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Today , I turned the page in our Saints book on the dining table and found out it was the feast day of blessed Giovanno Angelico ( Feb 18)– the Dominican friar and painter Fra Angelico. We have been on a little art rabbit trail, looking through our art books and the Faith and Life series for samples of Fra Angelico’s art. Thought I’d share this link, to the Artcyclopedia.

We put the angel print as background on one of our computers in the dining table.

Leonie -- we went to Mass at Rick's school (which is run by Dominicans) so that's who we celebrated today! I didn't know that he didn't use models for his paintings ... but painted them "from the heart"! Cool!

Does anyone have any good suggestions for a picture book on Fra Angelico? I ended up making one for my littles from an Internet article at ArtSmart4Kids. I interspersed some of his paintings, but it was very short. Any picture books out there on him appropriate for about 8-12 yrs. old?
In Christ,
