Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

has anyone done their own self-taught music lessons? Due to cost of gas, where we live, number of children, and unavailability of teachers, we are considering learning some instruments at home. One ds would like to learn the fiddle. Does anyone have recommendations of any DVD-self-taught programs? Also, we need just a basic music course for learning to read music, etc. Any DVD or computer programs for this? I don't have the time to teach basic music reading. TIA.

I know there are some good music reading computer things out there. One of our piano teachers used one set up on a computer so that students worked on the computer while they were waiting for their lesson. I wish I could remember the name of it. There are some free theory things that macbeth linked a while ago.

I have no experience with actually trying to learn an instrument in a teach yourself kind of way. We just always felt like it was worth the investment to get someone with some skill, especially since neither dh or I have any and wouldn't even know what to watch for. I do know technique on an instrument is extremely important to avoid physical injury. When we started lessons, we only started the child who was most interested as we simply could not afford lessons for every child.

Bumping this up so maybe someone else will have some ideas for you.
