Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I want to incorporate our American History studies with our music this year .... anyone got some great resources for music, songs or books that illustrate the music of the early colonial period? Especially fun ones fo the kids to learn (not just chamber/orchestral music).

Not exactly what you are asking for, but we have this piano music book. Maybe they have published others?

Lewis and Clark music has my review of it.

Have you seen this Popular Songs in American History site?

Fun idea, Mary!

Colonial Williamsburg and Mount Vernon come to mind as inspirational points.

The Fife and Drum Corps is spectacular.

Various period recordings and books

Mount Vernon has a few ideas, too, including the Charles Carroll cd. Interesting....

I'm on dh's computer now, but there is a site with great Revolutionary War music...perhaps a quick google search will turn it up?

We're doing American History too so you got me curious and I googled (what else is new):

Early American music
Colonial America CD
Fif and Drum CD (World Turned Upside Down)
the Bay Psalm Book~1640
Colonial Music
Colonial and Revolution Songs

I found some info on Negro Spirituals but not sure this is what we want. Still looking...

Music from the Shenandoah play (John Cullum) for Civil War era...

We LOVE music here and are starting American History. I never thought to put the 2 together. Thanks for asking, Mary, and thanks to everyone for the resources. I am so excited!
