Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am in the process of doing a Paper Scissors Stone order for Christmas gifts for my kids - which Lyra pencils do you use for older kids. My 3 year old loves the giant Ferbys. Not sure what to get for the 8 year olds and 11 year old? I am going to get the skin tones - but which other ones?

Thanks!

Marilyn,
We have 'em all I think.    Seriously, between the nice Lyra's and the Prismacolors that we use for special art projects, we can get the blending and the colors just right for most projects. I just recently purchased the large set of Lyra oil pastels to add to our collection and my 7yo loves those! My 11 yo really enjoys the color pencils more - she likes to blend and gets very frustrated if the effect she's going for cannot be achieved, so I just invested a $$ portion of our homeschooling budget this year in whatever pencil sets we were lacking! It's been a great investment!!!

Just for clarity, the 2 watercolor pencil sets I have are the LYRA Rembrandt aquarelle (watercolor) set of 36, and the Prismacolor Watercolor set of 24. I really can't tell you how much they've enjoyed the LYRA oil pastels though!!! They are beautiful, and my ds loves the vibrancy of color he can achieve with very little effort! You also might consider the sketch pencil set. I liked the LYRA, but in the end chose a Derwent set from Michaels and used the coupon. It was a compromise so I could get the beautiful oil pastels and complete our watercolor selection. I hadn't seen the LYRA skin tone set before - I'll be coming back for that one over the summer for sure!

I really don't think you could go wrong with a basic set, then perhaps as you use them this year, you can hear from the older two if they feel they are missing some shades or colors to complete their art projects. Then, add a few smaller sets as you begin next year with next year's $$.

HTH! Have fun ordering!!
