Can some of you share your opinions on these two programs? We are using MODG which uses Music Masters. I have not listened to those. I really like Classical Kids.

The Music masters tapes are great, but they are more "cerebral". They tell about the life of the composers as snippets of their music plays in the background. I like them a lot, but the Classical Kids cds are more riveting to younger children, I think...at least, to my younger children  However, there are a LOT more Music Master recordings available than there are Classical Kids.
I think Music Master tapes would appeal more to the older children. They would probably appreciate the less "kiddy" presentation.

Our music program gives out Music Masters as prizes for things like conducting competitions, or memorization projects. We have really enjoyed them at all ages. There is loads of info on each composer, and enough music to familiarize you with the most popular of his works.

Erin, I think that this quote is accurate. We have most of the Classical Kids and we have all enjoyed them from early ages to adult. Classical Kids is more entertaining, but not cutzy or over the top. At the same time I purchased Classical Kids (children were 4-6) I got one Music Master. It was over my kids head and attention span, although I enjoyed listening to it. Fast forworward a few year to me putting all of my CD's on itunes. My ds (10yo) runs over and hands me the Music Master Cd that he had found and listened to on his own and insisted that I put it on is ipod so he could listen again. Needless to say, I am going to be purchasing more of these in the near future. I don't think these are dry, but more documentary like with music bits. Plus, they are packed with information and are perfect for Composer Study!!!!!

I'm glad this was bumped. We love our Classical Kids but most of my dc are littles. I have been wondering about starting a collection for my oldest dd (11). We've incorporated Composer Study per CM recommendations so I've been trying to find something a little more meaty for her. I'm glad to hear Music Masters is an option. Definitely looking into them.

I'm thrilled to see that my library system has about a dozen of the Music Masters. I've been wanting to check into them, but hadn't gotten around to it until this thread.
I've used 3 or 4 of the Classical Kids. They're enjoyable as well, but the stories are fiction, just as an fyi.

So if I already have lots of classical music Cds, what would be the benefit of buying Music Masters? Does it present in a unique, teaching style?

I thought this might be a good place to add this:
There is a site called Keys To Imagination
I use it all the time. My piano studio has a lab and I own much of the software used. Check it out. You might find some really good things. She has audio, DVD's, and software. She is a piano teacher also and is very helpful if you tell her the ages of your children and what you need.

I'd love to add a link - Classics for Kids is great and FREE! I also have a couple Music Masters but they are still a little above my 6 and 4 year old's interest.
We'll probably buy more eventually, but for now I'm going with free. Every month, there are 4 programs about a composer or subject, one each week, that air on public radio. These are archived on the web site. There are also quizzes each week and a downloadable pdf for extra info/reading/quizzes. I'm hoping to consistently use these next year with my soon to be K and 2nd grader.

Erin, Music Masters presents the composer's biography along with some samples of the music. I think they aren't very long, and not the whole pieces.
Hope that helps! I kind of think building my classical music library is preferable to buying many music masters at this time, although I think they are cheap on amazon.
