Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone out there used resin for crafts? I went to buy some (and the catalyst that goes with it) to make fake "insects in amber" for Dinosaur Camp, and got scared off by the label warning about burning eyes and so forth. Obviously, this is something for an adult to handle, but maybe it's too tricky for an uncrafty adult (lke me) even????!!!   Anyone out there with experience? Since I saw this craft described in a children's book, I figured it can't be THAT dangerous, but who knows?   Agh!

Kelly,
I've been thinking about this but I don't have enough experience with this type of project. My first thought was epoxy but that's probably toxic too. My dh would know alot more...I'll ask him when he gets home.   What about a soap craft? I'm sure you could find a kit for clear soap that you could color amber. Or a gel candle?

Hmmm. I like the idea of clear soap. I'll check that out.

Thanks for the idea.

My dh requires children to wear goggles anytime he feels there may be a danger to the eyes. I don't know anything about resin or about the ages you are talking about. If it is a large group with other folks children, I'd probably go with soap.

I think I found a way to use clear glycerine soap to embed our bugs. I'm uneasy with the resin thing, too. I plan to experiment with the soap first. We've collected so many neat dead bugs that we're determined to find a way to do some version of this activity    But as a backup, I bought "insects in amber" candy...
