Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have just been through Story of the World 1 with my kids (supplemented with other books too!) and we LOOVED it! My question is...Is Story of the World 2 good also and what kind of red flags am I to expect? Are there a lot or just some I can skip over? And what would these red flags look like for this time period anyway??

Thanks for your input!

We have just started SOW 2. One thing I don't like is that she does not include the dates in the text as she did in the first book. It is somewhat cumbersome to have to look everything up. Also, she doesn't seem to go in chronological order as well as she did in the first book. The chapter we just finished is about 800 ahead of the chapter we are about to start. I find it a little frustrating.

As far as red flags, I am not far enough to be able to say, except that we skipped the story of St. Nicholas because my children are 5,6, and 7. Also I paraphrased the Great Schism and at each mention of the pope I have omitted "some people thought that" and read simply, "the pope led the Christian church."

Ok, I just read over my post, and I don't want to give the impression that I don't like this book. I still find it useful. I just don't like it as well as the first.

In the back of the book there is a list of dates with the chapter they correspond to. I agree it was handier to have the dates at the end of each chapter.
We have enjoyed STOW 2. I find it pretty neutral. We haven't found anything negative or anti Catholic but sticky issues like the Crusades, the Reformation and Bloody Mary need to be supplemented with Catholic material to give it the Catholic POV.

I second Natalia on STOW 2. Much of it is enjoyable and useful, but the sections on the Reformation and Elizabethan England are from a strictly Protestant POV and very misleading. Definitely plan to supplement with Catholic material.

I recently purchased the STOW 3 and am disappointed with it. The first Chapter on Charles V is inaccurate, the chapter on Spain in the New World paints a similar Black Legend---all negative, the chapter on "The Dutch Revolt" makes waffler, William of Orange, look wonderful and Philip II of Spain out to be The Evil PuppetMaster of Europe. I got so disgusted with the innuendo and subtly anti-Catholic suggestive tone, that I finally had to put the book away. Looking back at it now, it still makes me mad how things are taken out of context and over simplified---always to the detriment of the Catholics. That being said, I think it WILL be good for the American Revolutionary Era. However, if I had been more discerning at the book store, I would not have bought it.
