Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My ds (7th grade) is quite interested in, or should I say obsessed with, world geography . I am trying to think of something that would be a good Christmas gift for him. We already have a nice globe and quite a few atlases (I don't think I spelled that right - sorry! ). I was looking at a board game called Take Off but I'm not sure how challenging it would be. Any information on that or any other ideas?
Thanks!
Becky

A game we really like is Ticket to Ride. They also have a European edition. The game 10 Days in Africa is also popular here.

Don't know about the Take Off game. I've seen it for sale and wondered myself.

A high end spendy gift would be a GPS.

We have Global Pursuit and really enjoy it. It has different levels within same game so can be played by kids of various age levels at one time. I don't think it is still being manufactured but is available. Looks like National Geographic has replaced it with a new game - GeoBee Challenge board game.

The history/geography strategy computer game, Civilization III, has always been one of my oldest son's favorites.

Dear Becky,

Check out the Geography Zone in particular their Global Puzzle or Global Animal Puzzle - our children have enjoyed this, particularly my 12year old boy.

Take Off is a good game, but it would probably not interest a 7th grader for very long. Are you looking for board games or for things he can do alone? Our geography lover enjoyed a bag of foreign coins that I picked up on ebay. She sorted them by country and then looked up information on the internet. Foreign stamps--same thing. We have a few geography board games that they all like to play too. I can list them if you are interested.

Wow, Geography Zone is neat! I thought I'd seen every site there was, but apparently not! Thanks for the link Anne.
Andibc, I really like your coins / stamps idea. I'd also like to know what games your family likes. Tomorrow dh and I are going out for coffee and we're going to talk about what we're getting the kids for Christmas. (Yes, we actually have to go OUT to talk! Seems like we're never alone anymore!)
Thanks again!

Tracy, I second andibc's assessment of "Take Off". ALthough it's a good game, it tends to go on and on, and I don't think it would appeal to your dc for long. We have it and it only gets played very sporadically

I'm enjoying seeing all the other good suggestions!

We used to play Geografacts and really enjoyed it ( except for Africa ) Your marker lands on a country or state and you name it and the Continent, the capital, language, and currency. Border updates are available, which is good. ( except for Africa )

We spent most of the weekend playing Trans Europa. Everyone really enjoyed it!
