Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hope this is not a repeat question from another post.

We will be beginning a study of American History soon and am looking for a Catholic history book that can help keep us on track, to use as a spine for our studies. I have heard recommendations for All YE Lands and something called the the Catholic history textbook project--something like that.

Does anyone have any advice?

My children are in k, 2nd, 4th and 6th. I usually stay with books for the older ones and adapt them for the younger kids.

Thanks so much!

Jeanne,
All Ye Lands is part of the Catholic History Textbook Project. You can see them here... Catholic history texts

The two books written so far are From Sea to Shining Sea, and All Ye Lands.    You can read about the project at Catholic History Textbook Project
There is a sample of From Sea to Shining Sea there in PDF form that you can download to see.

Hope this helps!

I haven't seen From Sea to Shining Sea myself, but the samples look good and everything I have heard about it has been excellent. I think it would be just what you are looking for. All Ye Lands is world history and geography.

If you are starting with Columbus, I highly recommend James Leek's slim little tome, "Evangelization of the New World". It approaches the New World from the standpoint of the Catholic Church's goal to evangelize AND from the standpoint of responsability and stewardship. Short, thought-provoking chapters. Goes from Christopher Columbus up to settlement of Spanish Southwest, and I THINK beyond that to some issues of today. However, I used it just for the historical periods of Columbus to settlement of the New World. From there, it would provide an easy jumping off point for American colonies (and a good contrast between the Spanish crown colonies and the English settlements, many of which were sponsored by businesses, such as the "Virginia Companye")
