Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have recommendations for books on this topic?
We will be visiting a family member who is a Korean War vet and I thought an interview might be a good project for Brigid.
Thanks,

I had a great class in college that culminated in a presentation to William Bennett and Korean War Vets as well as a field trip to Korea, the DMZ and various bases.

When My Name Was Keoko - events leading up to the War.

The Firekeeper's Son picture book that looks like Korea, if that makes sense.

Sondok: Princess of the Moon and Stars, Korea, A.D. 595 (The Royal Diaries) - ancient history!

Some activities on-line connected with Peacebound Trains in the Teachers Lounge.

Korean War Children's Memorial Web Site the GI's were and still are very attached to the children of Korea. My husband was stationed there 3 times and each time they adopted an orphanage for Thanksgiving/X-mas etc... A treat for the kids is dried squid, very salty but whatever minerals are in it they crave way more than we do chocolate.

There is not a whole lot out there, that is why it is called The Forgotten War.

I think it is a wonderful thing for your Brigid to interview the Korean War Vet. Consider a tape recording, voices are so moving, so emotional, as they talk of their experiences.
Best Wishes...

Oh Viv,

This particular war is very near and dear to my father's heart since he was called enlisted. At his last reunion a book was given to him by a friend that knew these twin brothers personally. It is very much a living book and I think would be a wonderful contribution to your studies of this war!!

It is called .... Wall of Fire: A Diary of the Third Korean Winter Campaign

HTH.
