Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking at CHC's 5th grade and From Sea to Shining Sea. I already bought the 5th Lesson Plan Guide and it comes with a FSTSS Hands-On Study Guide. So, my question is, do I also really need the Teacher's Manual? It's $20, and I don't see how I would use the Student Text, Teacher's Manual and Hands-On Study Guide. I'll get if I have to, but if I don't...

Thanks!

Molly,
I don't have Sea-to-Shining Sea but I have All Ye Lands and I'm guessing they are about the same.

In the AYL Teacher's Edition:
Chapter goals
Key Terms
Chapter Overview
What Students Should Know
Central Characters
Answer Key to "Let's Remember"
Andseer Key to "Let's Consider"
Chapter Activities
Additional Activities
Sample Tests
Timeline Dates
Resources for further reading (I found this less than helpful)

I use it very little and could easily have done without it. It's definitely written for a classroom teacher but it is adaptable for home.

Thanks for running down the list for me, Elizabeth. It sounds like something I can do without. Hopefully one of the vendors at IHM will have one I can look through, just to be sure.

Thanks!!

Molly,
I'm not sure from your message if you've already bought the From Sea to Shining Sea textbook or not. If you happen to still need it, I wanted to let you know that I saw about a dozen used copies in good shape in a bin near one of the vendor tables at the IHM conference today. They were $20 - $35 or so. Quite a savings over the normal price. I'm afraid I cannot remember which vendor it was though. Sorry!

And I looked at the teacher's manual while there. I wasn't planning on buying it, but thought I'd take a look to see if I was missing much. I don't think it's necessary. I'd say skip it.

No, I haven't bought the text yet, but it's on my CHC wish list for $54.95!! You can bet I'll be looking for one of those used copies! Thanks for the heads up.

Molly, I have the teacher's manual and I agree with Elizabeth and Irene. I did use it a couple of times in the beginning but it felt very "schoolish" so we ended up using the text mainly as a jumping off point for other activities.
Just my .02 cents!
