Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can someone share their thoughts about From Sea to Shining Sea? I am considering using this for my 4th and 6th grader next year, but would love some feedback as to how others on this forum may or may not have liked it.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome Melisa,
have you considered skipping the text book and letting them read historical fiction from the time period. If you need ideas for books, I am sure we all have some great suggestions.

I did use it with my son and it was fine - a solidly Catholic textbook that we enjoyed reading. We did add a lot of historical fiction and nonfiction to our curriculum. As Aagot mentioned, many of us here have used living books (fiction and select nonfiction) in our homeschool endeavors, and we have some great book lists to share if you are interested.

Yes, I have considered using only living books for history and we would definitely supplement with books. I always have that fear of leaving a "hole" in the education as my 9 year old soon puts it. Whenever he hears of something he doesn't know, he turns to me and politely says, "There's a hole."Also, I was steered to From Sea to Shining Sea when I viewed the Mater Amabilis lesson plans.

I am very interested in living books lists that anyone would be willing to share.

Thank you for your help.

Aagot,

Thank you! This is a great list.

Some we have read, but many we have not.
