Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For younger kids, we loved Swamp Fox by Walt Disney. About Francis Marion...probably not completely accurate, but fun and innocent.
I see by the reviews that not all episodes are for sale...too bad.

Another Disney Johnny Tremain

This has gore and other stuff...so requires previewing:

The Patriot

Great reviews for The American Revolution series.

1776 is a musical but very fun to watch on the signing of the Declaration. There are some baudy references....

We recently watched "The Crossing" about George Washington crossing the Delaware and it was excellent. I think it starred Jeff Daniels as George.

I thought the Felicity Movie was extremely well done, of course, it is more Colonial than Revolutionary, but can you really seperate the two???

We loved Johnny Tremain. We also enjoyed "Guns Along the Mohawk" and "Northwest Passage"---though they're more French and Indian War. A precursor to the American Revolution.

All my children really liked "The Crossing"-a quality film. Oh yes, there's another really Oldie Goldie great flick called "The Randolphs of Virginia". I *think* it has Carey Grant in it, could it be??   Can't quite remember, but it's a classic.

Just a note about this one. My dh was given a copy of The Patriot a few years ago. Jenn is correct about the gore.(R rated) It is, to me, a story about revenge, with the Revolution as only a backdrop. It is very, very harsh-very difficult to watch.

We just got hold of the Swampfox series and dc watched the entire thing. Big crowdpleaser.

You might also check the Colonial Williamsburg website. They have a lot of interesting educational resources-if you take down some of the titles that appeal to you, you might be able to get the films through your library.

We liked Johnny Tremain, but not as a movie based on the book--way too much left out. And the kids kept laughing because it was all filmed on a set, and there was no Boston Harbor into which the tea was supposedly tossed . Oh, and it was WAY too happy for a war movie, to the point of being silly. Ah, Disney. Hey, wasn't that Mr. French as Merchant Lyte?
