Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone ever read the book Marie Tanglehair?

I picked it up at a library sale- walked away from it several times but kept coming back- and I am so glad I did!

Evidently the author was a librarian who was a big history buff- particularly the North American Indians. Anyway, the main character is an Indian girl who is sent to live with the Ursuline nuns in Quebec in the 1600's for protection from the Iroquois. She has a very hard time behaving well. Mere Marie of the Ursulines (Marie of the Incarnation) is in charge of the convent... she is so full of wisdom and yet so very human in the story.

The story is such a great living history of that time period. But this time of year the Christmas traditions described in the book are just lovely to read. It is well worth picking up a copy or seeing if your library has it. It would make a good read for a tween girl or family read aloud... as any kid would appreciate how naughty Marie is at times. And any parent could learn a thing or two from Mere Marie

This book sounds so interesting! Has no one else ever heard of it before? I wonder if there were ever many copies available.?
