Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I saw the American History Stories in the Rainbow Catalog and it sounds like something my 11 yo ds would enjoy as a history spine. There are four volumes. Has anyone seen it? I'm concerned that it will be anti-Catholic.

My boys really love these stories, and we have not come across anything anti-Catholic, though, I have not personally read all of the stories.

You can read them for free at Baldwin Project, and the first two volumes are available for listening at librivox. There are other recordings you can buy from Jim Hodges

I just saw that you said your 11 year old. You can look over for yourself, but I think that you might want something meatier for 11. I think these are better suited for early elementary.

Thanks Lindsay! That really helps. I should learn to check the Baldwin Project before I buy new books! What did you decide about the book you were considering from Little Feet? I checked that one out after I posted so I'm now wondering if it would be a better choice than American History Stories.

Idk, Becky. I still really like the look of the book, but it is expensive, and I decided to do Our Island Story this year. I am off kilter a bit from Mater Amabilis and will have a history hole next year for my oldest, and that is where I am leaning most strongly. He will be 11 then.

We are using these stories right now. They were part of our package of ebooks we bought from Yesterday's Classics. I have not found anything remotely anti-Catholic in them (we are part way through book 2). There has been one chapter that was very anti-Protestant though.       Well, it talked about a really bad event in history where Protestants harmed Catholics. I really like the books and my kids love the stories. However, I agree that they are more suited for younger kids.
