Jim Weiss is one of our favorite narrators here, and my dc eat up his history cds. But we have come to the end of what our library has available, and so I am having to think about possibly buying the rest.
I think we'd get good use from them. Ds will listen to a cd over and over.
But then there is the whole expense thing .
One option is to try to get them through ILL- but that is very unpredictable. Sometimes I wait for a couple of months only to be told that they couldn't get the cd for me.
If you are a Jim Weiss history fan- which cds do you recommend? Say you were going to buy three. Which three would you get?

Melinda~
Did you see that they were offering his CDs over at Homeschool Buyers Co-op? Not sure if that's an decent price or not...but I did notice it the other day.

Thanks, Suzanne- I had not seen that! Right now I can buy the individual cds at Christian Book for $11.79, so the Coop price is a little better than that for a group of five cds, and about $10-12 cheaper for a 10 cd set.
But I would have to buy them as a set. Ack- why am I even thinking about a major purchase like this right around Christmas??
I know- it's because if I don't someone will say- oh, but they had a great deal at the Coop right before Christmas And because my dc are so addicted to books on tape, especially in the car.
OK- everyone raise your hands if you've ever driven around the neighborhood for ten minutes to see if the Putnam runs aground in "Carry on, Mr. Bowditch"

Lol. Do you or family have everything for Christmas already? My boys have gotten Jim Weiss for Christmas many times over the years, often from grandparents. He was in the area last month, and we got to see him perform in person. It was a lot of fun!
My boys's favorites are Gone West, American Tall Tales, Greek Myths, Sherlock Holmes (ds9 thinks his newest, the Hound of the Baskervilles is the best yet), and 20, 000 Leagues Under the Sea. I've also heard Animal Tales over and over and over again, but it is a little young for your crew.
We actually only have 2 full length ones, but love them both (Bowditch and Seabiscuit).
I don't mean to be unfrugal, Melinda, but saving $10 on 10 is not enough to make me regret not getting them when money is tight.

What fun to see him perform!
Thanks for the suggestions, Lindsay. The Tall Tales and Sherlock Holmes were on my list.
I do have one relative who usually sends a check for the kids for Christmas, and if she does again this year, I am going to use that money to buy a few cds. We definitely need to have Mr. Bowditch at home, and we like Seabiscuit as well.

I like to keep things like this on my kids' Amazon wish lists for when aunts/uncles/grandparents are looking for gift ideas.
I just added the Lincoln one to my oldest's wish list because he loves US History.

Sweet!
I have noticed, too, that on Amazon some of the cds can be bought used in excellent condition for under $10, so that is also an option for us.
I seem to have very hit and miss luck when relatives ask for gift ideas. If I say ds would like Tin Tin Volume 8 for Christmas to complete his set, he may well get a lego set in February instead .
So I am very hesitant now (having come to anticipate this glitch) to ask them to buy anything that is high on the wish list.

I've taken to getting a lot of cd's and dvd's and books through Amazon used deals. Gotten some GREAT deals. Only had one book arrive in unacceptable condition and only one that didn't get shipped at all. Amazon was great to work with for the second. And I sent an email to the first telling them what the issue was, that I expected a full refund including the shipping price and that if they wanted their book back they'd pay the shipping for that. (they didn't want it back) And they did exactly that.
We enjoyed the "Mystery, Mystery, Mystery". It's one Sherlock Holmes, one Poe mystery and one Father Brown mystery.

Homeschool Buyer's Co-op has the Jim Weiss CDs again.
And, Sarah @ Amongst Lovely Things has 2 podcasts interviewing Jim Weiss on her Read Aloud Revival!!! They are really fun to listen to. Episode #4 and #5 are the Jim Weiss ones.
So, get those downloaded, get your walking-shoes on and go for a few walks this week, while listening to these!
