Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son is very interested in American Indians (or Native Americans...whatever you prefer... ). He is even more interested after our recent trip to Jamestown. I am looking for books to read as part of school and for him to look at on his own. I usually let him follow his passions on his own because then he stays interested and really digs into a subject.

I would love to have one living book with chapters about different tribes that we could read once or twice a week during Morning Basket. I would also love some biographies of famous American Indians and picture books. Even fiction would be great! Just let me know your favorite Native American books. I searched and couldn't find any previous posts like this, but if you find any I would appreciate you posting those as well! Thanks a lot!

We read this book http://www.amazon.com/The-Book-Indians-Holling-Clancy/dp/B00 085AB6U last year and loved it! We love all of the Holling books! We got The Book of Indians from our library...

D is For Drum: A Native America Alphabet from Sleeping Bear Press - one of their ABC picture books, covers various aspects of Native American history & culture while covering the ABCs.
An Alphabet of Native America - a Joseph Bruchac books, his Native America books are very well done

Search terms and picking ones that actually get the hits can be a tricky task I know. I did find these old threads if interested. Many of the books I like I recommended in these threads.

For fiction, I like the American Girl historical series.. and Kaya (the Nez Perce girl) is nice. Even my boys have enjoyed these when we read them aloud.

By the way, what is your favorite Kateri Tekakwitha book? I would like a picture book or a chapter book geared toward younger kids.

Blessed Kateri and the Cross in the Forest
looks good. There aren't many picture books or ones for a really younger child.
