Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking at ordering books for the new school year and am pondering making the switch from CHC to Seton for my 5th grader. I might just pick and choose from both in the end, but first I was wondering if anyone would like to share their opinions on which of the two books they like better and why:

From Sea to Shining Sea http://www.chcweb.com/catalog/ByGradeLevel/FifthGrade/FromSe atoShiningSeaTheStoryofAmerica/product_info.html

Or America's Catholic Heritage

Thank You!

I like the seas to sea books better. I think they cover more, the flow from chapter to chapter is smoother, they are more engaging, and since they aren't a worktext - they are easier to reuse or sell.

The seton ones are good too. I used them before sea to sea was available.

I like From Sea to Shining Sea better. I bought the 8th grade American history from Seton before they revised it and put in color. It is a good book, and I sometimes read it my self.

FSTSS is easy to outline from and/or narrate, and is what my 5th/6th grader has been using.

Ooops! I don't have any experience with the book you were ACTUALLY asking about! I love Seton, but FSTSS has been a hit here. I bought mine used so it was much cheaper. I bought the teacher manual when I used another book in the series, All Ye Lands, but never used it. I don't think it is necessary if you are just outlining and/or narrating.
