Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a lot of wonderful picture books for Sub-Saharan Africa (thanks to you!). We are doing one more week on Africa before we take a month long break. I would love a couple of picture books on the Sahara, Morocco, or Modern Egypt.

We are going to have our Africa party next week as well. I would love to hear some recipes! I make a lot of Moroccan food, but don't know any recipes from the rest of Africa!

Ted Lewin, a favorite illustrator/author has a couple good ones for North Africa.

Day of Ahmed's Secret (Florence Parry/Ted Lewin) - Cairo, Egypt

The Storytellers (Ted Lewin) - Fez, Morocco

Al, Child of the Desert (Jonathan London/Ted Lewin) - Sahara

I know there are quite a few Egypt picture books (though most are ancient Egypt) - I'll have to get out my list and post later.

Here's a Modern Egypt book recommended by Mater Amabilis for Year 1A, level 2. We got it from the library to preview and it looks good. There are a ton of copies on Abebooks, too.

52 Days by Camel: My Sahara Adventure
