So this thread on 1st grade History got me looking at buying Laura Large's Little People who Became Great. We have read it online on archive.org and my son likes it. I was searching abebooks when I found multiple titles by her in what seems to be the "Little Stories" collection, such as Little Stories of Famous Explorers, ... of Well-Known Americans, ...of a Big Country, etc.

So have any of you lovely ladies read/used any of the other books? I haven't tried looking at AO booklists or others yet.

bumping - anyone? Thank you!! Thinking of some of these for a 1st and 3rd grader next year. I checked to see if my library carries but they don't. There are only two on archive.org, Everyday Wonders and Little People who became great: Laura Large

My son and I (2nd grade) have been reading Little Stories of a Big Country together. We really enjoy it. It fits well with History and Geography: as we read about a place, we find it on the map, and it often sparks loads of rabbit trails based on the story. After reading about Yellowstone, we enjoyed looking up geysers, finding films about Yellowstone, talking about the animals of Yellowstone and reading any books we have about those animals, finding Yellowstone on a map, and the list goes on. We like reading one story a week because the rest of the week we enjoy fleshing out the story following our rabbit trails.
We have Little People Who Became Great and Little Stories of Famous Explorers which we'll probably incorporate in next year's (3rd grade) history reading. If I can find any other titles of hers I'll probably use them because we really enjoy her books.
Everyday Wonders is a little dated scientifically.
