My 3yr old son loves kangaroos (he is going to be a kangaroo when he grows up he tells me...and he practices everyday) and a dear friend of mine is coming to visit in a few weeks from Australia so I thought it might be fun for him to learn a little about kangaroos and Australia. Anyone have any book ideas or project ideas appropriate for such a little guy?

Hi, Welcome to 4Real

I have a number of Nature suggestions, my favourites would be Tricia Oktober and Narelle Oliver.
Looking at Aboriginal titles my all time favourite is Percy Trezise and the Kakadu books are incredible. A favourite Australian picture book author is Mem Fox, to be honest I'm not a huge fan, more fun than informative anyhow.

Regards project ideas, it wouldn't be hard to concentrate on different Australian animals. Read about one mammal/bird etc a week and colour in pictures and maybe have him dictate a story.

The Australian Book Traveller would be good for him in a couple of years, a bit like an Australian FIAR. Here is a list of lots of free Australian units etc, shared by a homeschool mum.

If you let me know what area you want to focus on the most I'll gather more ideas for you.
