Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi there!

Has anyone used the book "Lives of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence" for History? My 14 yo son is taking a Political Science co-op class and I wanted to use this book for History (maybe combined with the first part of MODG's 9th Grade History through the Revolution). I am just not sure how I want to do it--maybe read 2-3 lives each week and make a "Signers of the Declaration" scrapbook with pictures & then a 5 paragraph essay on each signer. Just thinking and wondering if anyone else has done this?? Thanks so much!

I got the book (by Katherine and John Bakeless) assuming it is the same one and we did enjoy it.

After a table of contents which basically gives you an at a glance list of names of the signers by state, it is followed by a timeline starting Oct 26, 1760 and goes through Aug 2, 1776 - when all the signatures are affixed after the Declaration is accepted by Congress on July 4 and signed by its President, John Hancock.

It was actually one of the few collections of signers that actually included John Carrol.

While we didn't "use" it for History, we just had it around to read, it certainly could be used as part of a History and would provide quite a bit of spine for the early American period leading up to the Revolution.

Thank you, Janet. It is very well written and I think I am going to use it this year!

This may be a nice addition to this project, Joelle. The Signers of the Declaration of Independence Notebooking Pages are on sale right now for $1.00. As is the Mini Book and Flashcards.

I was actually wondering which book was being mentioned in the original post - there are a couple by that title with different authors.

A book we have enjoyed - probably more for younger than high school though is: The Signers:The 56 Stories Behind the Declaration of Independence. Very nicely done. The author Dennis Brindell Fradin has been mentioned before. In fact, Suzanne has said she want to be him. Remember that?

Thanks for the heads up on the notebook pages...
