Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can't decide if this is Social Studies or Science/Nature... but just saw the press release that the U.S. Mint will be issuing America the Beautiful Quarters which will highlight 56 national parks and sites throughout our country. Many of you know how much I love the National Parks - and I love quarter collecting, too!

What a great way to focus on the history of these beautiful National Parks. We have often in the past used the coins (US States and US Presidents) as a stepping stone for learning about the subjects on them.

America the Beautiful Quarters

The first 5 designs will feature:
Hot Springs National Park - Arkansas
Yellowstone National Park - Wyoming, Montana, Idaho
Yosemite National Park - California
Grand Canyon National Park - Arizona
Mount Hood National Forest - Oregon

Have you ever used the coins as a learning tool to springboard a topic?
I'd love to hear your ideas for studying the National Parks along with these quarter releases...

Just thinking about this thread again. Unfortunately we have not been seeing that many of the National Parks quarters - they are much more rare than when they issued the state ones.

But that is off the subject. Anyway, I came across this book at library and think it is very cool. Figured it would be a good resource for anyone study or learning about the different national parks in the U.S. There is a section for each state in the U.S. there they highlight a national park for that state and mention some others. Love the artwork.

It also has a folder to hold the quarters that you collect.
