I am working on (have been working on  ) a Historical Mosaic (like Catholic and Christmas Mosaic) w/ my children.
In the past we covered picture books on the Underground Railroad, Titanic, Civil War, and Sept. 11
This past year we engulfed ourselves in Explorers, Westward/Pioneering Movement, Indians, Colonial America, and Great Depression.
This coming year we will cover Immigration, WWI, WWII, and Holocaust.
Those are the time periods and historical topics covered so far w/ my children.
What time periods and historical topics would you like to see covered? Any "do not miss" elements?

Something awfully dark, but I think valuable, that I plan to do with my boys at junior high or high school age is do a unit on genocide/mass murder. The hows and whys of it, especially how otherwise normal people get swept up in completely evil movements. Holocaust, Rwanda, Communism, Abortion/Eugenics, etc. I think an understanding of how and why this has happened in the past is essential to avoiding it in the future. "Never again" is not something I take for granted -- I believe we must be vigilant in warning of these dangers.
I'd like to then follow up all the darkness with a study of the shining stars within those dark events, people who made a difference and allowed God to use them in some way (whether they realized it or not) ... Maximilian Kolbe, people who hid Jews or helped them flee, Paul Rusesabagina, Imaculee Iligabiza, Lech Walesa, Jill Stanek, Norma McCorvey, and more.
Obviously this is way in the future for me, my oldest is just turning 5. But if I had a teenager right now this is what we'd be doing.

I always thought that it would be great to find a resource that includes artists and composers with the study of history would be fascinating.

That sounds great! Is it just going to be American history? If so, I would love to see some good picture books on more modern times: the Cold War, the Vietnam War, Korea.
And going backwards a bit, the French/Indian War, maybe also something that deals with our neighbors, Canada and Mexico?
What about Presidents? Or the Catholic Church in America? (After reading Letters to a Young Catholic by George Weigel for myself, I realized how very little *I* know about the history of the Catholic Church in the US.)
We have always had some interesting rabbit trails on the history of medicine/disabilities. One year we spent a long time reading biographies of Annie Sullivan, Helen Keller, Louis Braille, and Abigail Carter (one of the first students at the very first American school for the blind). We've also read about the 1918 flu epidemic, polio, and smallpox.
Oh! And what about Inventions or Agriculture/Farming? (I'm biased, but I think it's more and more important that kids know where their food is coming from and how the world of agriculture became the way it is. We've read biographies of John Deere, Cyrus McCormick, and Eli Whitney, and of course, many, many farming picture books.)
If you can't tell, I really like history. I'm excited that you've decided to put this book together!
