Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone have any tips/ hints/ ideas about neat things to do and see near Spokane? We'll be up there visiting friends who live about an hour away from the city, and we'd love to do some fun activities with the kids (our 9 and their 7). Museums? Hiking? Historical sites? Should we go sprinkle holy water at Gonzaga and pray for conversions there?

Peace,
Macmom

Yes, please! As an alumna, I would certainly appreciate it! Fr. Spitzer has done wonderful things but GU could sure use lots of prayers ... and more students like MaryM's eldest!

Riverfront Park is the site of the 1974 World's fair. It is a fun park with quite a bit to do there. I love the Looff Carrousel. It has recently been restored and they are celebrating it's 100th anniversary this summer.

If you go to Gonzaga to sprinkle your holy water, you can visit the BIng Crosby Collection. It's in one room - part of his childhood home which is now on campus.

They have a Northwest Museum of Art & Culture which I haven't seen but sounds like it might be interesting. Though not sure for the ages you mentioned.

OK - this one is probably going to sound a bit quirky - but we loved it -Fire Lookout Museum. They don't have an offical site and we only found it by following the instructions in this newspaper article - calling the number listed ahead of time to set up a tour. It is one of the most unique museums I have seen - it is in a private home and on the large yard surrounding. It includes a room full of Smokey the Bear memorabilia. There is an old fire tower that was rebuilt on the property. We have a history of wildland firefighting in our family and so maybe that is why we found it so interesting, but really this guy is passionate about this topic and his collection - we have always found opportunities like that to be the best learning situations because the enthusiasm is contagious. Oh and we LOVE Smokey the Bear...

Not sure where your friends are located or how you'll be travelling in, but Lake Couer D'Alene is beautiful and lots of nice hiking and swimming there. The Cataldo Mission - about an hour from Spokane, is a great look at the "Black Robe" Jesuit history of the NW. It is a really neat and well preserved site.

And hopefully Connie or Lisa will chime in with their favorite attractions since I'm not a resident.
