Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We're starting to do more talking about places, and I would like to have some maps around to go to and point out places getting a feel for geography.

Our house is small without a designated school room; so, I'd like some maps that will blend in with decor a bit. I had considered pull down roller maps, but those do seem pricey. I think I would like a world map and a US map.

Also, I'm not sure what to choose for long term use. The boys don't need a lot of detail now, but I'm not sure which kind of map would be the most versatile (as well as attractive--don't forget ) for the next several years.

Any favorites?

I like the Rand McNally ones.. umm not plastic but umm plastic coated? why can't I think of what that is called

And a globe..

you can look at an atlas for more detail but to get the big picture it's lovely to have a large map.. you can refer to your atlas and say here is.. and then to somethign else so that you can visually compare them. And the globe gives a better feel for where everything is.. rather than a flat map.. but again.. you need the other maps to refer to to help pinpoint where things would be.

My favorite maps are the AAA maps. At the time, we got them free, had them laminated and hung them from one of those wheeling drying racks. They can be flipped to each map. I got them because we wanted to find places like Ars that aren't on any other map.

I also love the Bible timeline maps which have overlays so you can see current borders overlaid on top of the old names and borders.

I'm big on historical atlases - wonder why !
