Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Wow ... we just watched this tonight ... and it was an amazing story of how Britain abolitionist/activist William Wilberforce helped rid Britain of slavery ... almost 60 years before America did!

This is a great movie that is not graphic, sexy or heavily romantic, so it didn't get much attention when it came out. But if you're studying post AmRev Britain, slavery in general, Black history month or just want to know about this period ... this is the movie.

Maggie (almost 9) and Thomas (10) were able to watch it with no problem (altho it did put JP - 6 - to sleep!) It's interesting too from a inner-gov't workings kind of movie as William Pitt is a great friend of Wilberforce but sometimes has to "sell him out" for political expediency.

Really, very well done!

We watched this a couple of months ago - incredible movie. DH and I watched it for our movie date night - I really want my kids to watch it too. Definitely in the top 3 of 2008.

Great movie! I watched a bunch of times when it came from Netflix. (My mom nagged me until I watched it. )

Then as I was buying school books this year I came across The Kidnapped Prince: the Life of Olaudah Equiano at Amazon. It is a modernization of his book (which he was selling in the movie) and put at the level of about a 4th grader. I read it this summer and give it 2 thumbs up! I'm going to read it with the boys this month. I expect interesting conversations especially since after he was freed, Olaudah Equiano continued to work on a slave trading ship for a while.

Yes, Gruffudd makes it that much better. I saw Amazing Grace last year I think, and thought it was excellent. Then this past summer I started watching all the Hornblower movies and wow, there he was.

I agree definately one of my top faves as well. Shortly after seeing the movie I went out and got Chris Tomlins CD that has the song on it the way I heard it in the movie. I am going to try to buy it but am leary of letting my 9yo see it,felt she was a bit young.Maybe I will rethink that.

Oh yes, simply wonderful!

And don't you see the connection between that movement and the pro-life movement? To me it seems incredible that a country and parliment could have been so deaf to the horrors of this trade even after exposing it as they did...to think it took a minor law seemingly related to the issue to stop it..

I just love the waving of the tickets over the top of the lounge chair!!

Yes, definately a must see Leonie!
