We're finishing up a study on Australia from our SOTW Vol3. We made Lambingtons this week and have read all Mem Fox things that we can find at the library. We also got out our Australia puzzle map and our Australian animals....but what we can't find around here is Vegimite. Anyone one willing to send us some? PM me. please.

Is it sold in the States at all Marcia? Are you looking for a lady in the States to help here or an Australian lady?
I was raised on Vegemite on toast in the morning growing up!

I can't find it here in my town, but I guess I should try amazon? Anyone have any ideas?
Would Marmite brand be Vegemite? That's all Amazon has to offer.
I guess I would be willing to take someone up on mailing us some....
Today we listened to didgeridoo music online. fascinating!

Marmite is gross Mind you I haven't heard of an American yet who likes vegemite. I think it is an acquired taste.
What else have you done?

Slightly off topic, but I read about an Ameican teacher who had a jar of Vegemite and crackers in her room and any student who arrived late had to have some. Not many late comers to her room.

Vegimite is a spread that Australian children are raised on! It's a VERY salty, very strong black yeast product. We love it.
Off to the beach, perhaps someone else can add more.

Just to clarify, not all Australians love it and Vegemite has been bought out by Kraft - an American company. Marmite is Australian owned as are Mightymite, Aussie Mite, Dinky Di-Nemite and Mite Mite. No, I haven't seen all these, I have a booklet called Ausbuy.
The ads say it is high in B vitamins, but as in previous posts, very salty. My favourite way is on a cracker with a good layer of butter first, then thin smear of Vegemite (or alternative) and cheese on top. Okay, so I'm partial to the stuff too.
That would be fun to put together a small parcel of Australiana and swap for similar souvenirs from somewhere else. I guess that must be an old idea, but I'm interested.
Congratulations, Marcia, on making lamingtons - I haven't got them to work.
And on Americans liking Vegemite - the Sisters for Life who came out for WYD tried the stuff and some of them seemed to like it. Photographic evidence in several newspapers. My cousins from England weren't so impressed.
