Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've searched the archives and have seen a few people mention back in the summer their intent to start this program. I'm looking at a change and was wondering how you are liking it? Are you tweaking it a lot? Are you enoying it? Was it worth the money? Is anyone using the LA too?

Thanks for all your feedback. The cobbled together Ancients study we've been doing isn't inspiring us; I've realized that it is mostly because we've always had plenty of books around on the ancient civilaizations, so none of it is new. That and I think we both need a schedule. American History would be a bit of a first for ds and myself, and I think 5th Grade is a good time to introduce it. American Crossing looks perfect, but I would love to hear from the mums in the trenches.

Hey Katie,
I just saw this and wanted to let you know how much fun we are having with this curriculum.

It is costly, however, we are enjoying it very much. I love the books. All are living books. Many are very rich in text while others are full of marvelous illustrations. We have not stayed completely on track and I am finding myself getting a bit behind.

I have tried Sonlight and Tapestry of Grace and I feel this one is the most user friendly for our family. I mostly use the Am. Crossing with my oldest dd 11yo but it also adapts well for my younger 3 dc.

Let me know if you have further questions. There is also a Catholic Winter Promise Yahoo Group of which I am a member. It addresses any issues that may possibly go against the Church’s teachings as well as gives moral support. The board is mostly quiet yet still very helpful.

Good luck in your decision making.

Anne

Katie, I have a good homeschooling friend here IRL, who STILL has not received all of her books which she ordered in early Aug/Late July.
She has been having a terrible time dealing with them on the xustomer service side of things.
They seem quite scattered, disorganized, and perhaps playing a bit of a shell game with people's money.
fwiw,

I must agree with Lisa on that note. I ordered items in July and had to call to get results. Their email response is unreliable. Once I spoke with someone on the phone all issues were resolved. I will probably order from them again. I do like the curriculum very much.

So if I go ahead I should order by phone and ask about backordered items. I remember something like this several years ago when I ordered Animals and their Worlds. Thankfully the backordered items were the devotional materials and I hadn't planned on using them. In the end they had to replace the item with an entirely different book.

I thought at the time it was due to their move from Alaska. Guess not!

I would definitely agreeing that calling them is the way to get results. DON'T use their email system - totally unreliable. But calling has always gotten good results for me.

A quick update. I have received most of the curriculum and am going to start Monday. I think it will be a good fit for us and keep us on track for the rest of the year, plus i feel like we're going to cover some new territory (no explorers pun intended!).

Of course several of the books I need for the first week have not come yet. I sent an email and intend to call on Monday. I have to just start anyway or the year will slip away from me.

The Time Traveler's CD's are very impressive, and I will certainly be bearing them in mind for the future if we study different time periods. Add some living books and you have a great curriculum just with this!

It's a lot of paper and I had to bring another bookshelf downstairs in a vain attempt to keep me organized. I'll update you to let you know how we get on.
