Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are going to Steubenville for parent weekend this week and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for other things to see. We always try to incorporate field trips when we have the opportunity but I am not too familiar with the area. It is fairly close to Pittsburgh.

Thanks and God Bless,
Barb

I went to school there!
the few things I can think of are:
-Fort Steuben downtown Steubenville, the University is in charge of the digs (worked there a "few" summers) and it's pretty well re-done and I know they have done some work to it the last few years.
-Go to www.catholicposters.com and ask if you can schedule a walk through tour. They were the only allowed vendor when the Pope came last spring. It's really cool to be able to tour their warehouse: woodwork, tshirts, and other high tech techonology to make religious items.
-Amish country is about an hour away by Sugar Creek and Dover, OH
-http://www.warthers.com, way cool and way worth the money for the entrance fee except if you have very small children

Hope this helps.

I was trying to wrack my brain on close places to see. It's been a few years since I've been on campus.

Pittsburgh has tons of things to do and places to see, but I think you want to stay close. If you want Pittsburgh suggestions, let me know.

You'll be pretty busy with the Medieval Festival on campus. It's even advertised here

It might not be possible to get a tour, but the Weirton Steel Mill operates in the town next to Steubenville (right over the bridge in WV).

I was going to suggestion Union Cemetery, as it has very old graves, many from the Civil War, and it's on the suggestion list of attractions that I just found. Also Fort Steuben.

Because of the location and local clay, there used to be pottery companies (Steubenville Pottery Company) but it's defunct. Not sure if there's anything to see anymore.

Oh Catholics United for the Faith is located there.

An historic place the grads and non-trads used to hang out is a little drive Drovers Inn.

And a visit to St. Peter's Church is always wonderful.

There is a Jefferson County Historical Museum see info here

That's some of the local flavor I remember.

The foliage will be beautiful as you drive through the mountains. If you're driving through Pittsburgh to OH, you will really enjoy it. And just driving through the tunnels and over those bridges is a field trip in itself.

Have a wonderful time!
