Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

...into 4, 9 week sections for history?

Not really "unit study" per se, since we wouldn't be incorporating all subjects, just History.

But....wouldn't it be okay to just do "ancients" for 9 weeks, and then Early American for 9 weeks, etc?

just thinking out loud, really....

sure anything is OK!! it sounds tiring to me, but then again, I'm just in one of "those" moods!!
see my reply to your other question
and PS: our year with all Seton was actually very freeing. I felt no pressure, and we were able to do loads of rabbit trails, field trips, and "good" reading!!

Laura

I don't think it crazy at all, but then this is what I do.

Here we have 4 terms, with 10 weeks per term, Actually I break it down even further into two blocks per term, 5 weeks per time period. I jump around all the time, depending on what we feel like doing. Usually we will devote a whole term - 10 weeks to Australian history and then the other terms into whatever the dc are interested in doing.

Simply Charlotte Mason suggests 4 eight week blocks I think. I like breaking up the year in bite-sized chunks as I plan things like history or science because it doesn't seem nearly as overwhelimng. I think a single focus for a nice block of time and then a change of pace is good, at least for our family. Mater Amabilis combines studying Ancients and American History, it just does so by doing one some days of the week and the other on other days. In essence, you would be doing the same thing, just in a different way. Hope that helps.

Sounds good to me! This is probably similar to what I'll be doing. I want to (briefly, we're only doing 1st grade) cover the big ancients (Egypt, Babylonian, Greek, Roman, etc) and early American history as well. I was thinking of doing it in 4 week blocks or so, alternating ancient with American.

Sounds fine to me! Of course we can never do anything for more than a few weeks before we get sick of it and are ready to move on!LOL!

Oh good! I mean, I know I *can* do it however, but it is still nice to hear that others don't think it is a bad idea, ya know?

As I am going through all the different curriculum, like Sonlight, WinterPromise, MODG, etc - they all do the history topic - be it American, Ancient, etc, for the whole year. I have to be honest....even if we stick with it through the beginning, once we take our break in December, it just seems so....boring.....to keep going with the "same old stuff." And then we tend to flake it off completely. Bad Mommy.

I think switching it up might be just what we need, and maybe it will get me out of this indecision slump!
