Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thank you so much for this link, Melinda. We have planned to study this as part of our Advent celebrations. This will be a useful resource :-)

Fun interactive link.

Any ideas for additional resources on this topic? I love the idea of exploring the customs of different cultures around the world. The last few years we have "adopted" some of the traditions of our cultural heritage. Growing up my family didn't really practice traditions from our ethnic origins (neither did my husband)- just did the American and Catholic traditions so it's fun to discover the ethnic celebrations and revive them.

So now we are doing a few Polish things like Oplatek and placing straw under the tablecloth as a reminder of the stable in Bethlehem. A favorite book for Polish Christmas customs is Treasured Polish Christmas Traditions.

I made signs with the traditional Christmas greetings in Polish, Basque, and Portuguese which we put on our doors. I purchased CDs of traditional Christmas music from Poland and Portugal from Folkways and we play those a lot. I really like the infusion of cultural traditions and this year I hope to incorporate a few more - particularly Portuguese ones for my husband's side of the family.

I would love it if everyone contributed sites and resources here that you have found for Christmas customs around the world. Let's compile a resource for 4 Real readers. This is a thread from a couple years ago with some resources and links.

Other specific links to past threads of interest:
Dutch Christmas
Poland (includes Christmas as well as other holidays)

Resources:
Holiday Traditions from the Museum of Scinece and Industry in Chicago. They have a current exhibit on this that sounds wonderful - wish I could go.
Santa's Net Traditions Around the World
St. Nicholas Around the World at the St. Nicholas Center website
