Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I stumbled upon this site and was dismayed to read how cruelly slanted Dicken's prose was against Catholics.

Check out King Henry VIII for a sample. I didn't know Dickens leaned so strongly toward protestantism.    All of his works of which I know seemed so unbiased to religious preferences.

God bless,

Dickens is very opinionated in his Child's History - but he "has a go" at both Catholics and Anglicans.

I must admit that I like his book - it is in story form, I now he is biased and so can discuss this bias with the dc. I like an author with opinions - it gives us a chance to discuss and helps my dc be aware of bias in writings.

Dickens was a great author of fiction, but not of history . I don't think he had any particular axe to grind - I seem to remember he wasn't a religious man - but I guess he had imbibed a fair few of the prejudices of his day. And as Leonie says, he was certainly opinionated!
