Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I decided to purchase Wheelock yesterday. My 14 dd loves it! She read the first book today, devoring the vocabulary. She loves words and is big list maker so this seemed to dovetail to her personality well. She finds it fascinating! Thank you all for your recommendations. I purchased the workbook along with the CD. Do I need a syllabus or do I have enough? I know MODG has a syllabus. Does Donna Young.org carry one?

That is so exciting that your daughter loves it!       It is amazing she is devouring the vocabulary. It sounds like you have made a wonderful decision. I browsed through the Wheelock book at our local bookstore and it looked impressive.

I've always loved the MODG syllabi but I have never seen the Wheelock one. I have the Henle one though and it moved very quickly. Sorry I'm not much help with the syllabus.

Okay...I totally need a break here!    We were out of town when I purchased a lot of our school books a few days ago. The store had 11 (count 'em) minutes to close. I am very familiar with this store so I flew like the wind. I had my list and my two sons to help me take items back to the check out counter.

After my dd raved about her latin, I took a second look at it and noticed it didn't look like the cover I had been familiar with. I bought CAMBRIDGE LATIN!!!!!!!!      I also purchased to four sets of Explode the Code (I had my guys running to the counter) when I meant to buy two!!!

I thought we were doing good!!

I told my dd I bought the wrong latin. She held it close to her chest and said "You're not taking this!". I told her she could keep it and I would order the other.

What a day!

Just to let you know, we almost went with Cambridge Latin this year. But instead we are doing an online course. I really liked how the cambridge latin looked.
FYI, Oak Meadow sells lesson plans for the Cambridge Latin. They do Cambridge Latin I then in the second year Cambridge Latin 2, and in the third year they switch over to Oxford Latin.

I'm not good with links but if you google in Oak Meadow, it should take you to a homeschool link Oak Meadow located in Vermont. Click on Bookstore and then page down to languages and click. They are Waldorf influenced in the early years, but not so much in the higher grades.

Just thought I'd let you know just in case:)

Blessings,
marianne

Well, Cambridge Latin is what they use at the one private school here that offers Latin- a school with a huge reputation for academic excellence. Our Latin tutor is using Wheelock with us - but actually saw the Cambridge book (basically one of the girls in our tutor class will be going to this private school next year and wanted to make sure she'd be prepared to jump in at Latin II). If it is any help to you, our tutor was quite impressed with this Latin and thinks very, very highly of it. I think it is a more recent text, so you may want to see if you can get the TM/AK from the publisher. Some publishers will work with homeschoolers individually if you give some sort of proof of homeschooling (we sent a letter from our administrator). If you dd has so taken to it, I sure wouldn't change what is working. I don't know of anyone who has lesson plans or such for this series. But if you reach a standstill, the private tutor route is great!!!

Emmanuel Books has the TM and workbook for Cambridge here

They also carry the MODG syllabus for it.

I used it with one of my boys, and it's a great course!
