My 14 dd will be taking these courses. Are they appropriate for the younger children? Will they learn, or do I need to order something seperate for the 11yr and younger children?

I have a French Minor, and I seem to recall watching these in high school and college on a PBS channel in the afternoons. From what I remember they were about two sisters and their parents and it was sort of all about their day. I don't remember anything objectionable but it might be a little dry or boring for any younger crowd as they won't really be able to understand it, unless of course they can understand french being spoken. HTH a little.

Yeah they are very dry for little ones. I have a B.A. in French (nearly in French Education as in I took the methods for this but never student taught b/c it was another semester for me).

Anyway, try yourself doing things. There are so many easy things you can do and expose them to. I really like Living Language baby's first words for the songs and exposing them to sounds.

Also check this post about other ideas. I've got other things I do with them too. Tonight we cooked and only did a few words in French (counting, eggs, flour, and mix)

FIA is good in that it is immersive. Pas d'anglais. This will help everyone learn correct pronunciation. The story line is unobjectionable.

I find that the materials aimed at little children don't work for my dd (now 9) because they're often things like songs, which are fun to learn but don't help the student learn to form sentences.

I need something like FIA in German...any ideas?
