Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are finished with Latina Christiana 1 (LC1) and want to move on next month. I had posted about Henle 1 and I think that is what I will get.

But before I hit the order button I wanted to see what some of the programs people moved onto after this- we are not completely opposed to LC 2, my kids love latin, but I would like the change. I know Lissa enjoyed the LfC but I was unsure whether we could go right into the B book from LC1.

Any raves, stuff you've loved????

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Latin Road to English Grammar. It's based on the principles of the Writing Road to Reading. It takes 2 years of high school level Latin and slows it down to 3 years, so you can start in 5th or 6th grade. It teaches Latin AND is a thorough grammar course at the same time. Easy lesson plans, not too time consuming for the teacher. My 15 year old is finishing up level 3 this summer, and she's been able to read "Harry Potter" in Latin with little problem, so I know she is understanding the language. My 7th grader did level 1 last year and is humming along, ready to start level 2 in a few weeks.

Has practice in reading Latin from the Vulgate, American patriotic songs, and daily life in Rome. Comes with audio CDs to really hear the language. My kids feel much more challenged than they did with LC1.

Thank you so much. I will look at that program. My kids aren't strong at all in grammar, because we ahem haven't really touched it before now, so this looks good

My kids found the LOTR in Latin so are wanting to get alot more fluent!!

We are doing Henle I. We did Prima Latina and LCI first.
I am thinking of purchasing the Latin readers available from CHC. Any other recommendations for reading?

I am not familiar with the Latin Road to English Grammar. Does this teach Latin grammar or English grammar? We used Basic Language Principles with Latin Background by Ruth M. Wilson a few years back and loved it. Is it simular to that book?

Hi Carole. How old are the children you are using Henle 1 with? I have still not purchased a Latin program- just reviewing LC1 and finishing up the last lesson and humming and haaing

You are moving to Wales- WOW! My husband has relations in Wales and my 12yos just signed himself up to learn Welsh with our library's online program

Kristie, my ds is in 9th grade and my dd is in 7th grade. It counts as a high school credit for ds and probably dd as well. We are still in the first week of the program--too much life interfering with education last week.

Thank you Carole. I have a 7th and 5th grader- 5th grader finds latin a breeze so far and 7th finds grammar very confusing. That is why I keep dithering

I have the reverse situation. But my 7th grader is picking it up well this year (so far). I have heard that Henle is a review of LCI and LCII, but at a much faster pace. And it (Henle) does count as a high school credit, but I am not sure about LC. You might want to go with LCII which had been my first choice until ds entered "high school."

Good luck. And remember it is just an educational choice. There are no rights and wrongs in this department!

It looks like we will use Henle. Slowly I am sure. The reason is quite amusing- we were given a $100 gift certificate to our local small bookseller by friends. I asked them to price a bunch of books for me, including Henle. Then I decided that I would wait on Henle and order the other books. Well, two weeks later they phoned to say that my Henle order was in. I told them that, no I didn't order Henle, but I would take it anyway since I would be ordering it at some point. So I went in the next day and they said that, no, they had never ordered Henle and did not have it there. Weird. Then last night I recieved a second call (three weeks later)- to say that my Henle order was in. I , once again, said that no I didn't order Henle, but yes I would love to have it    We will see what happens when I go in today
