We've been using Rosetta Stone and I really like it for the younger set and as a vocabulary builder for the older kids. But, it just doesn't get to the grammar I think and my older kids are just not using the little book that goes with it that has some of this info but doesn't EXPLAIN any of it. These teens do NOT want to work with me on Spanish and frankly, I am struggling to get things done the way it is. Is there such thing as a book/program/? that does a good job teaching Spanish grammar that could be used fairly independently along with the Rosetta Stone?? We do have Power Glide Spanish that ds did on his own in 8th gr but needed MUCH more supv from me, remembered NOTHING the beginning of the next year. sigh.
We did have a tutor come for a short time once a week to do grammar and oral work with 14yo and 16yo. It was wonderful. sigh. alas, she moved last week.
My 16yo is probably going to PS next year and should take Spanish 2 but I worry that his grammar foundation isn't enough.
rambling, avoiding lots of work that I should be doing....

I really like [URL=http://http://www.amazon.com/Madrigals-Magic-Spanish-Margarita-Madrigal/dp/0385410956/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/103-8985523-2299038?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1174443198&sr=8-1]Madrigal's Magic Key to Spanish[/URL. I used it to help me during my college Spanish class. I found that it explained things very clearly. It has been around since the 50s and it is still a top seller. If your kids have been using Rosetta stone they should find this book an easy one to use. It has 5 stars and 58 customer reviews on Amazon. Plus, it is less than $10.00 on Amazon! I keep 2 copies of it around my house and often have one in the car with us.

He is such a visual learner, and this is the ticket, thanks so much!!!! I think we're on our way to finally learning, and not being so frustrated!
And I TOOK THREE YEARS of Spanish! This shouldn't be THIS difficult!!!

We have been using the Spanish book that Seton uses this year and I do like the grammar and vocabulary presentations. However, I find that although I can read a lot of Spanish now b/c I understand the sentence structure and had taken both Latin and French years ago myself, I cannot understand much spoken Spanish, esp. locally. I know part of it is just speed but what's a good program to use to listen to and learn more spoken Spanish? I tried a beginner Pimsleur course from our library but didn't find it that helpful.
would Rosetta Stone be good for this? I have their demo CD and have played around with it, but in the early lessons it's just single vocabulary words. I need more practice in hearing words strung together quickly.

this is the book we've been using. It does come with CDs.
