Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you use a Catholic history text as a base and then add living books or just living books? If the later, how do you do it?

My oldest is reading From Sea to Shining Sea this year from the Catholic Textbook Project, since she's using Mater Amabilis Level 3. She REALLY enjoys it. I have a list of appropriate books for each chapter, drawn from a wide variety of sources, and we choose from that.

We do both, sometimes.

I blogged about how we did it just using literature -- Literature Themes and pulling in non-fiction material for context and deeper understanding of the literature.

This year my 8th grade son is reading Story of the Church and consecutively using Alicia van Hecke's Reading your Way through History

online

It is working pretty well.
