Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 11yo dd is probably going to be finishing up Zeta early in the next school year, "7th" grade. I am still trying to figure out what to do about Algebra, what to use and when to start it. Because of her age, and NOT being disposed to enjoying math, should I have her do some pre-algebra to finish out next year? And, is MUS going to teach her what she needs to know for the rest of her Algebra years? Unlike my older dc, she is NOT a Saxon kid. I get more and more confused as I look at the other programs. I think it will be between Teaching Textbooks and MUS(which she loves, btw). I just want to know that she will come out the other side knowing the math she will need.

Cindy, I have no personal experience, so take what I say lightly but I recently had a long conversation with the MUS distributor in Australia, a homeschooling mum who uses it herself.

She was telling me about a year 12 student who was directed her way, as she was needing to prepare for an Algebra placement test for the course she wanted get into at university the following year.

I don't know what the year 12 student's school work background was but she was panicking over her ability to pass this test as she had no real grasp of it.

The distributor put her on a crash course in the whole MUS program and when she finally sat for her placement test she got 45/50 - a very satisfactory result indeed!

We use Math U See, but are continuing through with their old program. Though we haven't used the new format stuff, I hear that it's wonderful. If your daughter loves Math U See so much I would keep trying it. Though the program moves through math at a different pace than others, I do think that it's thorough (especially the new stuff).

We will begin algebra soon, and are going to start with Jacobs Algebra, just because I've heard that it's a great, engaging curriculum and we are enjoying his Human Endeavor book. If ds doesn't like it, though, we will certainly go back to Math U See.

edited to add: The Pre-Algebra book includes things not in the Algebra book. Since your daughter isn't enjoying math, I would try the pre-algebra first.
