Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm thinking it's time to switch to Right Start for my ds in 4th grade who cries about his math every day. I'm just wondering, if I purchase this kit from Rainbow, does that include everything we will need?

Yes, Becky, but you may want to see if there's a help line at Right Start's website: alabacus.com because I feel like there are transition lessons for people who don't start at the beginning?? I've never used them, but I know they exist. They might be able to tell you exactly what you need to jump in.

You are right Maryan, but that kit includes transitions (at least the picture does).

Thanks Maryan and Aagot. Is there anything you can say to talk me out of this purchase? I really don't want to spend money on curriculum at this point in the school year but my ds is really struggling with math and I need to do something different!

Sorry Becky,
I just love RS and i bet your son will at least not cry about it and may even decide he likes math. My only suggestion is to not rush the math because you feel behind. Just take it one day at a time and He will be fine.

We just love RS, so I couldn't talk you out of it. We do still have tears sometimes, but like Aagot said, we take it one day at a time. I don't rush, and I love seeing the enthusiasm from both my boys.

I should explain the "tears" come from a child being distracted, not wanting to any kind of schoolwork, and finding himself "chained" to doing math.

So it's not the Math, just schoolwork and that boyhood age in general.

Most of the time it's eagerness to what the lesson will bring.
