Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need some help planning math for next year for my oldest. He was really struggling with math and we went WAY back this year and I put him in Level D of RightStart. We had used Math-U-See before that, but it wasn't a good fit for him and instead of finding something else I made him use it for way too long. Last year we used several different products looking for what would work for him. RightStart is a good fit. He will finish D next week and we will start E. I expect to be done with that by next November. Where do I go from there? I want to start Algebra in 8th or 9th grade. Most likely 9th grade as math isn't his strong subject. But, we will decide after next year seeing what he is ready for at that time. I don't think I want to do Level G in RightStart. Any suggestions?

I'll tell you what we do, but I'm not sure it's the best!

We went from RS Level E to Saxon 6/5. It's completely different but it's been working for us. My son does most of it independently, but math isn't difficult for him.

He'll be going to school soon, so I wanted a math program that might be more like "school."

Thanks Maryan!

Looking at Saxon makes my head spin. I hate to say it, but ds and I are both visual and the pages are cluttered. I know that is silly, but it does cause problems for us both. I haven't seen much of saxon though, so I will look at it again.

I have two Life of Fred books, the Fraction one and the one after that (decimals I think). We tried the Fraction one back in August and he wasn't ready for it. Those are an option too, but I don't know where they fit into what we are doing now or what we will use. A quote from ds when we tried it, "I enjoy reading the stories, but I'm not learning any math from it."

My ds's finished level E and then did both of those LOF books for review! They REALLY liked them! We did this in conjunction with the Right Start Geometry, which is really a good program, that we have spread out over 3 years.
