Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Donald in Mathmagic Land

Oh, my- how did I miss this one all these years?

This is classic Disney, a short film (27 minutes) that won an award for short documentary when it first came out.

Donald Duck takes a trip through an enchanted math forest (where the trees have square roots-too funny). He meets Pythagoras, and we learn how the musical scale was first invented. Then we go on to the golden rectangle, the strategy behind billiards (which I never knew) and a ton of other stuff that was really cool.

I am going to have to watch it again because there was just so much to take in (and I am slow ). The kids loved it and immediately wanted to
watch it again.

This is one of my favorite videos of all time! I love Galileo's quote: "Mathematics is the language with which God has written the universe." Plus the beautiful photography illustrating the Fibonacci sequence in nature.

Oh, thanks for the reminder. We'll have to dust this one off. My ds(who now claims to dislike math) LOVED this when he was littler.

You have discovered one of our favorites, Melinda!

Just wanted to add an errata:
The character states, "Pi is equal to 3.141592653589747, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera". The correct value of pi (to the same number of digits) is actually 3.141592653589793.

I know you were all going to lose sleep over that one!

You guys might also like this short, done by Xerox films in 1971 - The Weird Number.

My kids love this movie! I am amazed how many times that even my 3 and 4 year old ask to watch it.

God bless,
Christine

So, you're a detail-oriented person? Ya' think?

I love this one!! I remember seeing it when I was a kid, too. I need to get it on DVD for my kiddos. They saw it once on the end of another movie on VHS but I don't even know what happened to it after that.
