Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used this before?
Real World Algebra

If so, is it like an entire Algebra course or more like additional work?

Thanks!

We have it and are using it as a supplement. I wouldn't think of it as a complete algebra course.

That's what I thought. Thanks for replying, Theresa. Do you and your son like it? Does it do a god job of showing how algebra is used day to day?

My oldest has been struggling through Life of Fred Algebra this year and I'm getting a lot of..."When will I ever use this?" from him...probably because he is struggling with his math for the first time in his life. Anyway since he is so young I see no reason to not do another year of Algebra I. I'm thinking of investing in Teaching Textbooks since I will use it 5 times over I can justify the cost. It sounds like this is a very successful program for people. I'd planned on helping with the higher level maths since I always enjoyed them, but then I saw how difficult it is to switch gears and help with a complicated algebra problem in the middle of helping someone learn to read or cooking dinner. I'm just not that fluent in it. So, I'm hoping this is the independent math I'm looking for...with the Read World book to tie it into life.

Sorry I got so wordy there. I guess I'm still trying to convince myself that I shouldn't try to do it all.

My son does like it. When given the choice of which math to do on a particular day, it is the one he will choose.
I'm not sure it does a fantastic job of explaining how math applies to real life, but it certainly makes an effort. Lots of interesting word problems.
