Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For those of you who use or are familar with MCP Math, do you prefer the 1994 or 2005 edition and why? I have used the 1994 ed.with my older son (before going to TT) and now with my younger for 1st. I have been satisfied with it and plan to use MCP next year for 2nd. Only question is,should I stick with the older ed. or switch to the newer one? I read someone that the newer ed. meets the "standards". Usually, I don't pay much attention to that, but my son will be taking the ITBS test to meet state requirements. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much.

bump because I have the same questions.
we've always used MCP math for K-4th
I was hoping to continue to use it, but would like to know what the changes are in the new edition.

The newer edition is, in my humble opinion, quite accelerated! We used it for 4th gr. for my oldest and he hated it and wanted to cry every day! That being said, he also struggles with Math and was used to the 1994 editions previously...I hope this helps a little bit. If you are looking at testing perhaps the 2005 edition is the way to go...I am sure it is more "on target" for the new standards.

Thanks Veronica's Veil. This is definitely the kind of information that I need to know. But I'm afraid that the same thing might happen to my son. If your son hated it, did you stick with it or switch to something else? A love of learning is much more important than a test score. However,if scores are really low in our state 2 years in a row, they can force us to put the child in school (or I think I can choose another evaluation option such as having a supervising teacher).Anyway, you can see why I am concerned, but he'll probably do fine.

how is it accelerated?

it's always been a mastery approach, which is what I love.

has that changed?

I couldn't care less about the "standards"

my standard for 4th grade is that they continue to learn basic math!
