Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I did some searching through threads, and I probably just couldn't find this answer clear enough for me, but...here's my ???

Is the Jacobs Elementary Algebra course, equivalent to doing Algebra 1? I am assuming this is the case, but I haven't seen an Algebra 2 from Jacobs, so I guess that is why it isn't called Algebra 1.

Also...okay I have more than one question...for those with experience with this book and with Saxon, would you say there are more practice problems for each lesson than Saxon? We just came off of Saxon and one of my dh's biggest complaints was that the one or two problems my dd got for her lesson that day in the homework section just wasn't enough.

We have thought about TT, but dh would rather not go with that for our dd as when she did Saxon this year, she had the Dive CD, so we are thinking that part of the problem with her math work has been the format of the lecture. I am not confident enough (sure I went to VATech but I took Math for Liberal Arts students and still struggled!). Dh has a science phD so he is looking for a text from which to "lecture" several lessons at one time (like a Sunday night) and then assign problems to work during the week and she can come to him with questions during the week.

We are going to use LoF Beginning Algebra this summer as an intro to help bolster some of her problem areas from Saxon 8/7.

This is probably tmi for my 2 questions!!!! Thanks for any advice you may have!

The Jacobs book is just algebra 1. Jacobs suggests using Forester's book for Algebra 2/Trig.

The book is set up very differently from Saxon. Rather than using that signature Saxon spiral method of drill and review, Jacobs finishes each chapter with a choice of 4 problem sets. They have varying degrees of difficulty, with the second set being most traditional, while set 4 is usually a puzzle problem based on the topic. My kids found it very engaging.

Thanks! That really does sound like what my dh is looking for and thanks for the Forester's name as well.

When I googled for homeschool math curriculums, that name never came up...but I will be looking into it.
