Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was wondering if there is a book or website or something that I can read to give me some idea on how to use all of the montessori math materials. My head is spinning on all of this and I am not sure why (arrows, golden beads, boxes, black and white beads ? )
I am wanting to use a different approach with my younger kids as far as math goes. My older two still have such a difficult time with math. I ordered the multiplication and division boards for my older kids as a supplement and I am not sure how to present them. And of course there are no directions.
signed, Kirsten (who is not quite sure why I can't figure this out and a little embarrased because I can't! )

Oh! I just popped over between nursing and loving my new little one Kirsten.

Don't be embarassed!!!! Seriously! This blew me away too.

I have a couple of books that I love that really helped me understand.

Montessori in the Classroom by Paula Polk Lillard - a good general info book that I LOVE! But in the back she gives some very detailed descriptions of some of the math presentations that really helped me visualize.

Teaching Montessori in the Home - the Preschool Years by Elizabeth Hainstock

and

Teaching Montessori in the Home - the Elementary Years by Elizabeth Hainstock - both books offer really great step by step visualizations for math and other presentations.

These were my 3 favorites. I did do a lot of looking online too. If you haven't yet looked through Lori's blog at Montessori for Everyone you might scroll through her archives. There's a wealth of info there.

Thought I'd mention Kirsten that some of these presentations just start making sense when you get out the materials and start working with them. You can read, but it wasn't until I started working more with the materials myself that it started to click more. Also, Montessori Math has been by far the most rewarding aspect of our Montessori work! Well worth the effort!!

Good luck!
